How did you upgrade?do-release-upgrade
or a reinstall? (replace, or something-else without format?). What do you mean by won't boot up? Are there any error messages? or won't it turn on at all (or other hardware issues)? The more information you provide on your issue will help us to help you.

Hi, I upgraded via a USB I purchased with LTS. When it boots Get a /dev/sda1 contains a file system with errors, check forced. IT then goes through some system drags I assume and finishes with /dev/sda1 unexpected inconsistency: run fsck manually, fsck exited with status code 4

The root filesystem on /dev/sda1 requires a manual fsck

Have you booted your 'live' media (the install usb-drive; which I'd also suggest using the check-install-media option to verify it's valid as well) and runfsck
from there? The file-system is possibly in an unclean state because you've forced it to power-down (without keyboard telling it to shutdown cleanly via command or Sysreq-combination).

it was working fine for a while and it seemed as though when I did the last round of updates it started playing up. How do you check-install-media option?
