I am a neophyte in Ubuntu. I swept windows 8.1 from my HP Pavilion g4 and installed Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS bionic.
My Problem:
When I am in the living room near to my router, my RT3290 (rt2800pci) seems to work properly and it gets continuosly connected . When I go away from my router (to a bedrooom) the wifi stops working:(Other laptops can get connected). The problem is solved when being connected in the living room, I set Txpower from 20 to 30dbm. then I can go to the bedroom, but It returns to 20dbm after hibernating and then It's impossible to get connection back again from the bedroom (even with txpower set at 30. when I return to the living room it gets back by itself alone) I cannot fix the value at 30dbm (besides I've read this is not recommendable).
I've also changed the parameter nohwcrypt from N to Y (Is it advisable?)

  1. I've tried
    Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS - RT3290 Wi-Fi driver problem, already tried every solution I dont know if trying (b) (c) or (d) could worsen the problem

  2. Since rtl8723be != rt2800pci

    https://medium.com/terminal-ubuntu/baja-se%C3%B1al-de-wifi-en-una-laptop-con-ubuntu-16-04-2930cbca80ae

  3. the specific driver for rt3290 instead of using rt2800pci because
    solution could be outdated
    How do I get a Ralink RT3290 wireless card working?

  4. I read that if upgrading to 18.10 (cosmic), the problem is solved ?
    but there is not LTS.

Do you have any solution or advise ?
