Few days ago, directly after I updated Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (in dual boot installation with Win-10, both working perfectly with grub boot menu, on a recent Acer notebook), the laptop would not even start until the boot menu: directly after the branding ACER screen I see the following for few seconmds, before it shuts down:

Failed to open EFIBOOTmmx64.efi - Not Found
Failed to load image EFIBOOTmmx64.efi: Not Found
Failed to start MokManager: Not Fond
Something has gone seriously wrong: import_mok_state() failed: Not Found

I tried the following:

  • Change boot order to Windows first -> Windows starts and works.

  • Boot from USB from which I installed Ubunto primarily - Ubuntu starts and
    works, I can see and access both Win and Ubuntu file system

  • In Ubuntu:

sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair && boot-repair

resulting only in

5: input/output error

boot repair does not start, for which I could not find a solution in web.

I am new to Ubuntu/Linux and feel stuck, any help is appreciated.
