In Ubuntu 18.04 I have set up IBUS as my Keyboard Input Method System, and have installed it according to the detailed guideline specific to 18.04 here. This guideline includes instructions for activating IBUS both in menus and searches, as well as "system wide" in the language support window. However even after activating it system wide, I see that IBUS is only working in Ubuntu's search window (to search the computer with), and in Opera web browser's top address bar field (for writing web site addresses). It does not work in applications in the computer, like Libre Office, Gedit, etc. (Strangely, it also does not work in Firefox or Chromium web browser's top address bar field.) There must be some setting for widening the sphere of application of the input method system, so that it will work in applications in the computer, not only in search windows etc. Been searching the web and struggling to get this working right for several days, any guidance appreciated.
