I use ubuntu 18.04 LTS. In my external hardisk, I have a .dvr file. It can't be opened using any applications I have. It is named test_write1.dvr.
The file is 6.2 MB in size. And I can't see this file anywhere when the HDD is connected while in Windows.
After I delete this file from Linux Computer, unplug the HDD and plug it back again, it comes back there.
From a quick google search, I have found that .drv files are Driver Files and can potentially be a virus. So is this file required to be in a HDD? or specifically is this an important driver file, or a Virus and should I try deleting or not? And why does this file pop-up only in Linux ?

No, it is not necessary for the HDD to function. A.drv
could possibly be a printer driver file, written in C, in which case it ought to be in/usr/share/cups/drv
. Also, it ought to be plain text. Howevertest_write1.drv
(or.dvr
) is a strange name for a driver. In a terminal, dols -la /path/to/the/file/test_write.dvr
(replacing /path/to... with the actual path`).
