I connect to the same wifi network at home daily. It is secured with WPA2 and uses particular DNS servers that I entered into the IPv4 options. When I clicked into my wifi settings in Gnome for this network today while connected, it had different settings. Security said "WEP 40/128-bit Key (Hex or ASCII)" and it appeared to have the default settings for DNS (empty) and for connecting automatically (which I don't do), etc. The network ssid was the same, though. When I clicked "Turn Off" to disable the wifi and then re-enabled the wifi and reconnected, the settings were correct again. I'm at a loss to explain this. Hoping someone has a pointer to what might have happened here.
