History


On 13 September 1966, the foundation of the school was laid by Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India. The school became operational in January 1974 with class I and VII having a total of 400 boys and girls. It was inaugurated by the then President of India Dr. Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed on 26 October 1974.


The school's first principal was Pandit Shiv Sharan Sharma (who had previously taught Shri Rajaram Jaipuria.) Mr Joshi was the first officiating Principal of the school. As he was there for a short period, the person who gave the school its character was the second Principal Mr D Chatterjee. Subsequently, Shri P. Arvindakshan was the principal of the school. The present principal is Mrs. Shikha Banerjee.

The school campus is within the Kanpur Cantonment, near Kanpur - Lucknow railway crossing. The complete postal address of the school is:

The medium of instruction is English and the school provides education to boys and girls for a 12-year course. The syllabus of the Inter State Board for Anglo-Indian Education is followed up to class VIII. The school is affiliated to the council for Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi under the 10+2 pattern.


Jaipurians were declared the ICSE junior quiz champions on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
