The Next CEO of Stack OverflowHow to change screen output to HDMI, when laptop screen is broken?Resolution and screens not detected properlyDual monitor setup, why does NVidia 340 Prime only detect one monitor?thinkpad 10 running 14.10 2 external monitors not recognized(Ubuntu 14.10) 3 Monitors on laptop with Intel HD Graphics 4000Ubuntu 16.04; external monitor; after reboot, no longer working as dual monitor, only working as mirrored16.04: Both screens turn black when plugging in an external monitor to notebookHDMI monitor not detected by laptop after unplugging and plugging back inUbuntu has trouble with this particular HDMI projector. Fedora is fine. Eh?External monitors randomly stopped working together this morning
I have no issues plugging in an HDMI monitor and displaying something (ubuntu tends to decide where it is extended, but I don't really care).
After unplugging, sometimes my laptop still thinks that the display is plugged in, and will spawn windows on that "display". This means I have to hotkey the window over to my working display, which requires me to remember the random spot that the display manager decided to extend the secondary display.
It seems the easiest way to reproduce it is to unplug the HDMI port after putting the laptop to sleep, as it's no longer picking up the unplug event. Is there a way to force a scan so it sees the lack of extended display?
I have both the nouveau and nvidia drivers blacklisted due to display issues, so I assume it's running on intel's integrated graphics, if that matters.
