I've installed ubuntu 18.04 LTS fresh install on Acer Predator Helios 500 Notebook, but it's unable to identify state in headphone jack, which is always shown as plugged in and no sound comes from notebook's internal speaker. And not even after plugging in headphones. So after sometime searching out only solutions i came up was,

  1. install pavucontrol and change the audio output to the speaker.

  2. use hda-jack-retask to indicate that the headphone jack is unplugged by overriding it's pin on boot time.

Both of these solutions will end up with a functional internal speaker with audio out, but when I plug headphones, it's unable to recognize headphones are there, and there's no audio output through headphones.Anyone have experience with this sort of problem?

  • Same problem with me. Did you manage to find any solution to this apart from the 2 solutions you had suggested.

  • Nope nothing yet, using pavucontrol to switch to speaker. Seems like will have to write a script on boot to correct it up, I'll update the progress in here.
