Hypatima tephroptila is a moth in the Gelechiidae family. It was described by Meyrick in 1931.[1] It is found in southern India.[2]
The wingspan is about 15 mm. The forewings are whitish irrorated light fuscous and with a short fine black line from the base beneath the costa. A dark fuscous triangular patch extends on the costa from one-fifth to five-sixth, its apex almost reaching the dorsum in the middle, with two large discal tufts within its anterior edge, two others beyond these, and two at three-fourths, of which the lower falls outside the patch, these tufts tipped leaden-grey. The hindwings are light grey, thinly scaled and purplish-subhyaline in the disc and with the veins grey.[3]
