I just recently created the bootable flash drive from the instructions online, but when I try to boot up Ubuntu 18.04 from that same flash drive it doesn't even begin to load like the instructions say it should.
How can I manually start the boot up or fix this?
My laptop is an Intel core 3 and runs Windows 8.

Have you try edit boot order in bios?

That depends entirely on your hardware. And is it BIOS or UEFI? What were the instructions you followed? Please edit your question accordingly.

I just edited the question. Also it's BIOS. Thanks for the quick reply

BIOS = Legacy. Why the hell did you installed Windows 8 in Legacy mode in a UEFI machine? If it's factory installed then it's certainly (and correctly) installed in UEFI mode. Ubuntu should be booted and installed the same way. How to force boot from the USB installer depends on your specific hardware (the guide mentions F12 as a suggestion only, yours can be and probably is different). And again, how did you burned that USB? If you used Rufus in Windows it's likely you made a mistake if you kept the default settings.

Cant leave a comment yet (not enough rep), but this may count as an answer anyway. What kind of machine (specifically ) is it. I ask because Toshibas have a different key than F12 to boot from USB. Also, some machines are only able to load an OS off flash from one specific USB port. You may need to try your other ports first. Also, you need to verify that secure boot isnt turned on. Probably want to see if your HDD is set to AHCI or Raid also, but dont change it just yet.
I'm not sure why the other guy was so concerned about UEFI. At the end of the day you dont really get that much more with it (better partition schemes and BIOS menu, but judging from your question i dont think that will be a major concern for you). Please respond back with that info and i believe I can get you sorted.
